My savior post partum...
Duke’s Bakery was my neighborhood jam. This was our weekend brunch spot as soon was eating solids until we moved to Vermont. Everytime we visit now we stockpile the muffins for our freezer. Duke’s started as a spot to provide nutritious, allergen friendly foods for families that struggle to find safe restaurants to eat in. Removing gluten from the kitchen means that families struggling with celiac’s disease or other gluten intolerance issues don’t have to worry about the safety of their food.
Navigating restaurants with food allergies is a nightmare. When it comes to packaged foods, it's sometimes impossible to weed out what is dairy or gluten free, and what isn't. Often times foods will say "dairy free" or "gluten free" but have some sort of by product of cow's milk or gluten like casein. In the restaurant industry, staff are frequently poorly trained in how to identify food allergies, and the options are often slim.
When Duke's opened, connections to families struggling with eating out, and enjoying life was at their forefront. Having watched their own family struggle to find something that was safe, it came time to open their own bakery. The staff at Duke's are impeccable when it comes to safety. From knowing whats in every baked good, and new item on the shelves, to keeping the kitchen completely gluten free, I've never met staff so focused on the safety of their food.
We love Duke's. We love Duke's for their coffee ice cubes, and their muffins. My son has loved diving face first into handfuls of muffins, and cupcakes. Through our own issues with dairy intolerances, I've felt secure knowing that neither of us will be affected by an accidental exposure or byproducts that the staff aren't aware of.
Duke's has been nominated, and won awards time, and time again. You'd have no idea that their food is gluten or sometimes dairy free. Thankfully, Duke's also offers birthday, and event cakes. Being able to access safe food for children that have intense food intolerances allows children with different needs to have a "normal" life. We're thrilled that Duke's continues to grow, and garners more recognition for the commitment to the community it makes.
